Abstract

Child-rearing practices have been a constant in a child’s life. The way children are brought up could have a purposeful impact on their lives, in how they carry themselves, and in their behavior. Parental guidance and the lack of the same could influence the child’s behavior, one which could either bring up a child into the law-abiding citizen that he/she is expected to be or to plunge them into a life of deviancy. Unfortunately, there are those children who chose to swerve from normalcy. During the study, the researchers were able to find out the causes of the respondents’ behaviors and the roles of their parents in their lives. There was a big revelation once the study was finalized. The objective of the study is to verify if the parents had an important role in a child’s deviant behavior. The study used quantitative analysis, specifically the document analysis method. Further, an informal interview was conducted, wherein general questions about the children were pointed towards the present caretaker, and a questionnaire was never used. The data gathered were analyzed using the quantitative content analysis method. As a result, there was no difference as to children who are deviant because of lack of both parental figures, and those children who have both parental figures. Moreover, it was concluded that a child’s behavior can depend on the environment and not solely on the influence of their parents over them.
