Abstract

The paper covers potential improvements in the performance of individuals, crews and training program to be gained from improved data collection and analysis. A key element in the systematic approach to training (SAT) is the use of feedback to improve the quality of performance. What is proposed is a more organized approach to satisfy the feedback requirement based on better methods of data collection and analysis. A change to the program would require not only data collection improvements, but also more time spent in analyzing the results and designing scenarios to test the crews over a range of conditions. The paper covers the data collection needs, analysis processes, scenario designs and benefits obtained by this process. The paper also discusses experiences with use of the simulator data collection and analysis. Analysis of the data should lead to continuous improvement in the performance of the crews.
