Abstract

AbstractIn this study, a significant link is found between summer rainfall over southern‐central Europe (SCE) and the circumglobal teleconnection (CGT). It is proposed that the SCE rainfall drives the CGT. The downstream‐extended CGT‐like wave train is reproduced with a linearized barotropic vorticity equation model forced by an upper‐tropospheric divergence over SCE. This study provides an alternative mechanism for the formation and maintenance of the CGT.
