Abstract

(BJOG. 2023;130:70–77) During complicated deliveries, brachial plexus birth injury (BPBI) is likely to occur. BPBI is caused by traction to the cervical and thoracic nerve roots. Shoulder dystocia (SD) is the greatest risk factor for permanent BPBI. Simulation-based training has been suggested to prepare healthcare professionals for deliveries involving BPBI and SD, but the outcomes and results of this training are inconsistent and uncommon.
