Abstract

In this paper, the seismic mitigation effect of self-centering tension-only brace (SCTB) and bidirectional force bearing self-centering brace (SCBB) are compared through the seismic fragility evaluation method. The structural configurations, hysteretic curves of SCBBs and SCTBs are summarised. Besides, the numerical models of SCBB and the SCTB are developed, which are verified based on experimental results. Seismic fragility assessment of a 6-story reinforced concrete (RC) frame with SCBBs (SCBB-frame), a 6-story RC frame with SCTBs (SCTB-frame), a 12-story SCBB-frame and a SCTB-frame is made through incremental dynamic analysis (IDA), where the fragility curves are obtained and compared. It is found that as compared with the SCBB, the SCTB can provide more life safety guarantee and collapse resistance capacity for the RC-frame, and the SCTB has better control on reducing the residual story drift of RC-frame.
