Abstract
To raise productivity without sacrificing quality or increasing costs at North Memorial Medical Center, Robbinsdale, Minn, various random-access immunoassay analyzers (RAIAs) were evaluated. The analyzers were compared for their ability to perform immunoassay tests throughout the day, and provide expedient turnaround time for certain analytes without sacrificing result quality. The RAIA ACS: 180 analyzer (Ciba-Corning Diagnostics Corp, Medfield, Mass) was chosen and phased in at the medical center’s immunoassay section. The labor savings from using this analyzer have increased productivity enough to absorb a 15% greater work load, and the medical center now offers several additional immunoassay tests previously referred to other laboratories.
