Abstract

Asthma, a chronic inflammatory respiratory disorder characterized by airway hyperreactivity to allergic and non-allergic triggers such as air pollution, stress, smoke and physical activity, presents with recurrent symptoms like cough, wheeze, and dyspnea. It remains a significant health and economic burden in the US, affecting 24.8 million people with 1.6 million emergency room (ER) visits in 2017 alone1.
