Abstract

Background: Gastric cancer is the third most common cancer among males and seventh most common cancer among females in India. Malnutrition is prevalent among Gastric cancer patients and can influence the immediate post-operative and long term outcomes. The impact of nutrition in long term outcomes for gastric cancer patients are well elucidated in western and east Asian studies. However, they remain poorly investigated in Indian populations. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of Preoperative Body Mass Index (BMI) on Overall Survival (OS) in gastric cancer patients who underwent curative resection in Eastern India.
