Abstract

The power quality (PQ) of a system expresses to which degree a practical supply system resembles the ideal supply system. Power quality is an issue that is becoming increasingly important to electricity users at all level of usage. Sensitive equipment and non-linear loads are now more common in industrial, commercial, agricultural and domestic environment. Because of this, a heightened awareness of power quality is developing amongst electricity consumers. This paper presents the fuzzy system to determine the power quality. The performance of three-phase, 15 kVA, 400/400 V distribution transformer is observed for different power quality condition in laboratory. The power quality is in terms of voltage is disturbed for experimental purpose. It is observed that the fuzzy system is able to make accurate diagnosis of power quality. It is also observed that as the power quality become poor, the distribution transformer efficiency decreases, causing significant reduction in performance of distribution transformer and thereby rise in utility losses.
