Abstract

The impact of the number of pilot tones in Wimedia-defined orthogonal frequency-division multiplexed (OFDM) ultra wideband signal (UWB) transmission over fiber-to-home (FTTH) networks is experimentally analyzed. This paper analyses the expected reach and performance of multichannel OFDM-UWB transmission in adequate FTTH distances. Amplified section and standard single-mode fiber are considered. The experimental results indicate a strong dependence of the FTTH reach/performance on the number of pilot tones used to estimate the equalizer transfer function. The results reveal the number of pilot tones as an important parameter to be considered in UWB radio signals transmission over optical systems.
