Abstract

Soil organic matter (SOM) is a cost-effective and informative indicator of physical fertility. The aim of this experimental work is to assess the effects of organic amendments such as manures on soil physical properties under semiarid climate. A 4-seasons field experiment was conducted using three manures included poultry, horse and cattle. All manures were applied at doses 20% and 40%. According to the experiment average data in the top soil (0-20 cm) indicated that all treatments were recorded a significant improvement of soil physical properties in comparison to control soil such as bulk density, porosity, water retention capacity, saturated hydraulic conductivity and structural stability. The very highly significant effect (P<0.001) was observed in poultry manure (FV40) treatment, the possible reasons may be due to their low C:N ratios and high intrinsic nutrient contents.
