Abstract

The present investigation quantifies and analyse the activity concentration of natural 232Th, 226Ra, and 40K radionuclides in the sediments samples collected from the mangrove environs of Payyanur, Kerala by employing 5″ × 5″ flat type NaI (Tl) detector. Determination of radiological risk parameters was done and compared with their average values for India and the world. It was found that the mean activity concentrations of 40K, 226Ra, and 232Th were, respectively, 7.2 ± 2.5 Bq kg−1, 2.6 ± 0.9 Bq kg−1, and 13.6 ± 2.8 Bq kg−1. The findings show that the mean activity concentration of 40K, 226Ra, and 232Th and all the radiological parameters are well within the global average values.
