Abstract

We have evaluated the recent literature regarding the use of high fidelity simulation and multidisciplinary team training to emphasize the fundamental concepts of leadership, teamwork, and communication during critical patient events. Evidence exists to support the creation of multidisciplinary training programs that utilize high fidelity simulation and focus on cardiocerebral resuscitation. We believe that multidisciplinary simulation training, when combined with a continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiative, can address inadequate and reduced trainee exposure to critical events and may lead to improved patient outcomes.
