Abstract

As a result of the negative consequences of the global financial crisis a number of different restructuring processes of the banking system were observed globally and in Europe. Mergers and acquisitions in the banking sector in Bulgaria have not been studied and therefore analyses of their impact on bank profitability and efficiency by means of traditional indicators was done. For the purposes the micro approach, assessing the financial status of the banking system, was used. The study showed that mergers and acquisitions in the banking sector have a positive impact on the bank efficiency in Bulgaria in the period 2007-2016.
