Abstract
The paper discusses about halbach array, the method of arranging permanent magnets in a specific manner. In halbach array, parmanent magnets are arranged in a way that magnetic field strength on one side of array increases while on the other side of the array, magnetic field almost gets nullified. The paper explains about the effect of that increased field strength on the TDS of hard water. Total dissolved solids (TDS) consist of inorganic salts such as magnesium, calcium, sodium, potassium, bicarbonate, sulphates chloride and other organic matters dissolved in water. The scaling in a pipe or health hazard makes it necessary to treat the hard water for its high TDS. CaCO3 and MgCO3 (calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate) are sedimentation agents that are affected by the strong magnetic field and hence scaling is reduced. The test is performed by varying the field strength linearly along the water flow by changing the water flow rate.
