Impact of machine perfusion preservation on liver discard rates since its implementation in the US

Abstract

Background: The disproportion between organ demand and supply has led to the use of suboptimal grafts. However, the associated increased risk of morbidity and mortality limits their utilization, and therefore increase organ discard. Hence, efforts to reduce such risks by improving the quality of marginal grafts for transplantation are essential. Machine perfusion (MP) preservation appears as a promising solution.
