Abstract

ABSTRACT This study evaluates the impact of land use and occupation changes on potential groundwater recharge in a Brazilian savannah watershed. The results show that potential groundwater recharge was directly influenced by changing scenarios in the watershed. The impact of land use and occupation changes was assessed by considering current land use and the replacement of all agricultural crops by soybeans (scenario 1) and natural savannah (scenario 2). We conclude that the processes of land occupation of the watershed should be understood in order to minimize reductions in the potential groundwater recharge in a watershed located in the Brazilian savannah biome.
