Abstract

The Krishi Community Radio Station (KCRS) launched the Science for Women's Health programme on 5 April 2008. This programme was broadcasted twice daily for half an hour duration for 1 year. This was implemented in three villages of Dharwad taluk, viz, Mangalagati, Chikkamalligwad and Kelageri. Listener groups were formed and radio sets were distributed to these groups to enable them to listen to the programme. Various programmes related to women's health were aired during this time. Hence, this study was undertaken to know the impact of the programme on the women. Comparison of the knowledge index of the listeners and non-listeners clearly indicates that there was a significant difference between the knowledge index of listeners and non-listeners. Thus, the study clearly shows that series of broadcasts on a particular topic through the KCRS has significantly increased the knowledge of the listeners. Hence, such programmes with respect to need-based aspects can be taken up by the KCRS.
