Introduction

Climate change is a highly complex environmental problem characterized by system-type dynamics. The definition provided by Moore et al (2010: 5) suggests that systems thinking is “The ability to recognize, understand, and synthesize the interactions, and interdependencies in a set of components designed for a specific purpose.”. For this analysis, we use this working definition, albeit removing the reference to “design”: Systems thinking is the ability to recognize, understand, and synthesize the interactions, and interdependencies in a set of elements that form a coherent whole The definition provided by Moore et al (2010: 5) suggests that systems thinking is “The ability to recognize, understand, and synthesize the interactions, and interdependencies in a set of components designed for a specific purpose.” For this analysis, we use this working definition, albeit removing the reference to “design”: Systems thinking is the ability to recognize, understand, and synthesize the interactions, and interdependencies in a set of elements that form a coherent whole
