Abstract

Feeding by alfalfa weevil, Hypera postica (Gyllenhal), larvae and pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris), significantly reduced stem length and dry weight, forage yields, and forage quality of the first harvest alfalfa, Medicago sativa L., in Louisiana. Greatest reductions occurred after concurrent feeding by the two insects. Insecticide application following first harvest significantly reduced impact of individual pest species on the second harvest of alfalfa. However, concurrent feeding by both insects during the first harvest period produced a residual effect that significantly reduced second harvest yield.
