Abstract

It has only been since the late 1940s that chemotherapy emerged as part of the therapeutic armamentarium for treating patients with disseminated breast cancer. Recently, however, the role of chemotherapeutic agents in prolonging life and disease-free interval in patients with breast cancer has come to be questioned.
