Abstract

Background: Donor characteristics and graft quality such as older age, higher BMI, and liver steatosis have previously been reported to be associated with tumor recurrence after liver transplantation (LT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, final pathological explant data, which is the most vital risk factor for HCC recurrence after LT, was not available in previous investigations. This study aims to revisit the risk of donor characteristics and graft quality on HCC recurrence after LT using pathological data, which was implemented in the UNOS database in 2012.
