Abstract

Infrared thermography plays a major role in condition monitoring. By detecting the hotspot temperature, the condition of any equipment can be diagnosed. However hotspot temperature is not an exact indicator of anomaly as it is also dependent on the environmental conditions and camera settings. Hence it is necessary to study the impact of these parameters on the hotspot temperature. As emissivity and distance between the specimen and camera, affects the hotspot temperature largely, it is essential to find the relationship between the distance and the hotspot temperature at different emissivities. In this paper, mathematical relationship is obtained between the distance and the hotspot temperature at different emissivities. IR thermographs acquired using FLIR T335 IR camera of UPS switch box.
