Abstract

Pandemic is the outbreak of any disease that rapidly spreads worldwide to affect a large portion of the population at the same time. Various threats posed by this type of disaster have negative impacts on society. Early detection and accurate identification of the cause of outbreaks can play a vital role in managing the consequences of pandemic such as reducing the hazards, saving many lives, and controlling future outbreaks. Disruptive digital technologies can play a significant role in pandemic risk reduction and management. In this chapter, an attempt has been made to study the impact of digitization on society in pandemic management. Collected real-time data are analyzed impartially to present a critical review. Corona virus has been spreading globally within a very short time. How COVID-19 can be managed by the latest digital technologies is considered here as a case study. Although digital technologies are very significant in today’s world, COVID-19 pandemic causes these technologies to become inevitable in society. This chapter concludes that outbreak of the disease can be reduced by effective utilization of these technologies at the right time when nothing is beyond the control.
