Purpose Currently, the hype surrounding digitalization proclaims that the way in which companies create and capture value will change dramatically. Companies that adjust their business models to embrace digital technologies will need different skill sets and competences. Current research tends to focus on the impact of digital technologies on corporations or more generally the labor market, but the authors lack detailed insights into how companies perceive this development to influence their needs regarding employee qualifications. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to explore how companies perceive the impact of digital technologies on the education and training needs of current and future employees. Design/methodology/approach This study draws on eight case studies from the food industry. It focuses on one occupation certified within the German “dual system” of vocational education and training (VET), the machine and plant operator with focus on food technology. Findings The findings suggest that the impact of different digital technologies on employees’ job positions, working tasks and training needs is carefully considered in decisions regarding the implementation of digital technologies. Despite some company-specific contingencies, the perceived implications for VET needs are largely similar across the sample. Originality/value This study draws attention to the importance of reviewing VET needs in relation to the decision of implementing digital technologies.

  • I Yu Rosovska

The article, based on current legislation, examines the impact of digital technologies on the evolution of the legal status of individual subjects of administrative law. The active process of digital transformation in Ukraine has led to the fact that the relationship between a person and information and communication digital technologies has reached a qualitatively new level. Digital technologies create a unique space in which a person’s opportunities to realize their interests are significantly expanded. Digital technologies create additional powers of a legal nature for subjects of administrative law, which are associated with additional protection of subjective rights and legitimate interests. Research in this area is becoming interdisciplinary, which indicates their importance and relevance. The object of the article is social relations that develop in the process of legal regulation using digital technologies, which arise in the course of the implementation and protection of individual subjects of subjective rights and legal obligations. The subject of the study is the impact of digital information and communication technologies on the evolution of the legal status of individual subjects of administrative law. The article used general scientific (logical, systemic, functional and other methods) and private scientific (formal-legal, comparative-legal, forecasting method, etc.) methods of cognition. It is noted that individual subjects of administrative law under the conditions of the use of digital information and communication technologies in the process of legal regulation, along with general features, are characterized by a number of features. These features are due to information and communication technologies, without the existence of which individual subjects will not be able to be participants in legal relations using digital means. These features do not fundamentally change the understanding of individual subjects of law that has developed in the science of administrative law, but rather emphasize the fact that legal relations are complicated by the «digital element». Individual subjective rights and legal obligations can be implemented by individual subjects in legal relations only with the help of digital technologies.

  • Xiaoran Shi + 2 more

Digital transformation has been considered as one of the most prevailing management practices for enhancing supply chain resilience. As its core elements, digital technologies that have been widely used in practice have drawn much attention. Yet, existing researchers’ attitudes towards the impact of digital technologies on supply chain resilience are inconsistent. Moreover, most literature often focuses on a single technology dimension and neglects exploring effects of digital technology profiles. From this perspective, this study aims to explore the overall impact of three key technologies of digital transformation on the supply chain resilience through a meta-analysis. Meanwhile, moderating effects of industry sector, economic region and logistics performance are also investigated. Results revealed that key digital technologies exert favourable influences on supply chain resilience, among which artificial intelligence presents the greatest impact. Meanwhile, this impact is more pronounced in the manufacturing sector compared to that in the service sector. Furthermore, blockchain technology works more effectively on improving supply chain resilience in the service sector and low logistics performance areas. Research findings on the impact of key technologies on enhancing supply chain resilience in different contexts not only offer valuable insights but also highlight significant managerial implications in this area.

  • Yang Shen + 2 more

IntroductionPromoting the development of digital technology is an important step in meeting the challenge of global climate change and achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.MethodsBased on panel data of Chinese cities from 2006 to 2020, this paper used econometrics to investigate the impact and mechanism of digital technology on carbon emissions.ResultsThe results showed that digital technology can significantly reduce carbon emission intensity and improve carbon emission efficiency. These results remained robust after changing the estimation method, adding policy omission variables, replacing core variables, and solving the endogeneity problem. Digital technology can indirectly reduce carbon emissions by promoting green technological innovation and reducing energy intensity, and it plays a significant role in the carbon emission reduction practices of carbon emission trading policies and comprehensive national big data pilot zones. The replicability, non-exclusivity, and high mobility of digital technology help to accelerate the spread of knowledge and information between different cities, which leads to a spillover effect on carbon emission reductions. Our unconditional quantile regression model results showed that digital technology’s carbon emission reduction effect continuously decreases with increases in carbon dioxide emissions.DiscussionThe results of this paper provide evidence for the potential use of digital technology in achieving the goal of carbon neutrality, which is of great significance for achieving high-quality innovation and promoting the green transformation of the economy and society.

Renegotiating police legitimacy through amateur video and social media: lessons from the police excessive force at the 2013 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade
  • Jul 3, 2019
  • Current Issues in Criminal Justice
  • Justin Ellis

ABSTRACTThis article examines the impact of digital media technologies on police-lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) community relations in Sydney through a viral video of police excessive force filmed after the 2013 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade. Critical media analysis, and 15 in-depth interviews with police and non-police respondents directly affected by the video, make an in-depth, qualitative contribution to legitimacy and procedural justice studies on the impact of digital technologies on LGBTIQ community trust in police. The findings emphasise the capacity of amateur video of police excessive force publicised directly through social media to pressure the police to account, to catalyse LGBTIQ community responses and to negotiate through online fora legitimate boundaries of police practice. Exposure through social media can pressure the police to justify police transgression in real time; a form of ‘dynamic’ legitimacy requiring continuous and detailed justification of police practice that can exhaust standard police responses through a potentially infinite claim-response dialogue. Despite revision of policing practices at Mardi Gras since 2013, ongoing discrepancies between police understanding and public perceptions of a range of police tactics, including use of force, emphasise the continued importance of dialogue between police and LGBTIQ communities.

Comparative Ophthalmological Analysis in Elderly and Young Individuals: The Impact of Age-Related Changes and Digital Technologies on Visual Function
  • Dec 15, 2025
  • Bulletin of Science and Practice
  • D Kadyrkulova + 6 more

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in screen time among young people, accompanied by a rise in ophthalmological complaints related to visual strain, dry eye syndrome, and accommodation disorders. At the same time, the elderly population continues to show a high prevalence of age-related eye diseases such as cataract, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration. Under these circumstances, a comparative assessment of ophthalmological status across different age groups becomes particularly relevant for the early identification of risk factors and the prevention of vision impairment. Since 2021, the Medical Clinic of Osh State University has conducted regular ophthalmological examinations of two cohorts — elderly inpatients (≥65 years) and young individuals (schoolchildren and students) as part of preventive screening programs. The aim of this study is to compare the ophthalmological status of elderly and young participants and to determine the relationship between screen time and the occurrence of ophthalmological complaints or diagnoses among the younger group. The findings will help to clarify age-related differences in the impact of digital technologies on the visual system and contribute to the development of effective preventive recommendations for different age categories.

Human activity and the drying up of rivers determine abundance and spatial distribution of Black Storks Ciconia nigra on their wintering grounds
  • Jul 30, 2010
  • Bird Study
  • Damien Chevallier + 9 more

Capsule The drying up of rivers results in the fragmentation of home ranges over the winter period, birds avoid areas of high human activity. Aims To investigate the impact of human activity and habitat characteristics on the distribution of Black Storks Ciconia nigra on wintering grounds in West Africa. Methods Seasonal variations in wintering home‐range size and habitat selection of seven Black Storks were studied using satellite tracking from 1998 to 2006. A Black Stork population was followed in the field from 2003 to 2005 in the Nazinga Game Ranch (Burkina Faso) and Ghana. Results Adults and sub adults (n = 5) have smaller mean global ranges than juveniles (n = 2) (532.92 ± 237.17 and 2463.18 ± 405.10 km2 respectively) and smaller mean core ranges (8.83 ± 10.01 and 162.14 ± 131.56 km2 respectively) suggesting that juveniles prospect widely for suitable habitats during their first winter period. In all birds the home range becomes increasingly fragmented from November to February. Two main factors seem to be involved in this fragmentation: (1) Black Storks seem to prefer locations on perennial rivers but many rivers in this region gradually dry out into separated pools at this time of year; and (2) monthly variation of human activity along the rivers. Occurrence of Black Storks is inversely proportional to human activity, irrelevant of whether open habitat is available at the location. When human pressure is moderate, open habitats and low tree canopy favour the presence of Black Storks. Conclusion We propose that conservation measures should include the creation of reserves located along perennial rivers, away from areas of human activity.

Impact of digital technology on herders’ grassland leasing-in decisions in Inner Mongolia, China
  • Sep 9, 2025
  • PLOS One
  • Chen Xue + 5 more

Against the backdrop of grassland ecological degradation, grassland transfer has become a crucial pathway for optimizing livestock resource allocation and promoting sustainable pastoral development. Based on survey data from 383 herder households in the farming–pastoral ecotone of Inner Mongolia, China, this study applies Heckman models, mediation models, and moderation models to examine the impact of digital technology on herders’ grassland leasing-in decisions and the underlying mechanisms. The results indicate that digital technology significantly increases both the probability and the scale of grassland leasing-in among herders. Moreover, digital technology indirectly promotes grassland leasing-in by enhancing scale efficiency. Notably, strong social networks weaken the facilitating role of digital technology in grassland transfer, whereas weak social networks strengthen it. The impact of digital technology on grassland leasing-in is especially pronounced under environmental regulations with weak incentives but strong constraints. Finally, compared with ordinary herders, digital technology has a significantly positive effect on grassland leasing-in only for new-type operators. In addition, the impact of digital technology is more pronounced among groups with higher levels of education.

FEATURES OF THE GEOMETRY OF SPIRALS AND THEIR NATURAL AND PRACTICAL APPLICATION
  • Feb 26, 2025
  • APPLIED GEOMETRY AND ENGINEERING GRAPHICS
  • Helen Bidnichenko

This work is devoted to the topical issue of geometric modeling of some types of spirals and their practical application in nature and various areas of human activity. A geometric and practical study of Archimedes' spiral and its inversion with respect to the pole - a hyperbolic spiral, as well as Fermat's spiral and its inversion on a circle of unit radius - lituus, was carried out. A mathematical description of spirals is presented and their geometric models are developed: definitions and equations in polar coordinates are provided, graphic formation schemes and algorithms for their construction are created. A comparative analysis of the researched types of spirals in relation to the oldest spiral of Archimedes, which was found for the first time in the III century BC, was carried out, and the geometric properties that distinguish the types of researched spirals from each other were determined. Special attention is paid to the study of spiral forms in the natural environment and in practical application. Various examples of natural spiral phenomena and forms are selected in the article, which proves the relevance of this geometric study of various types of spirals. It is shown that due to their geometric features, spirals are widely used in many areas of modern human activity: technology, physics, mathematics, astronomy, art, everyday life, etc. Products with spiral surfaces are used in various industries: oil, chemical, food, etc. Special attention is paid to highlighting spirals in architectural forms. The most vivid and characteristic examples of the use of various types of spirals are selected, and photographic images are given. It was concluded that with the development of science, there are new areas of use of the studied types of spirals, therefore, geometric research is a necessary condition for the possibility of using spirals in newly created objects of various industries and expanding the range of their application.

Exploring the Impact of Digital Technologies on Team Collaborative Design
  • Oct 15, 2024

  • Rongrong Yu + 2 more

This paper presents the results of a protocol study exploring the impact of various digital technologies on team collaborative design processes. Previous studies have suggested that compared to traditional methods such as sketching, digital technologies can provide further benefits for collaborative processes. However, there persists a lack of understanding about the impacts of digital technologies on such processes, particularly in relation to emerging significant digital technologies such as immersive Virtual Reality (VR). Therefore, this study aims to fill that gap by exploring team collaboration behaviours of two groups of professionals working in two digital design environments—desktop 3D modelling with Revit and immersive VR using Hyve-3D—as well as their behaviours during traditional sketching sessions for benchmarking purposes. Utilising protocol analysis method, the think-aloud data of participants was recorded, transcribed and coded using an adapted collaborative practice model. Team collaboration activities are broadly categorised as ‘Content’ or ‘Process’: content referring to design task-based activities, while process refers to activities related to the organising of group processes. The results suggest that during the design collaboration process, designers allocated the majority of their efforts towards process-oriented design activities. Differences between design environments only had a minor impact on the amount of effort expended on process-oriented activities and content-oriented activities. Moreover, traditional sketching design environments were shown to be potentially beneficial for problem-solution and associated negotiation activities. Additionally, immersive environments were associated with a reduction in the designers’ cognitive effort that was expended on exploring the design environment.

A study of the impact of digital technology on industrial ecologisation in the Yellow River Basin of China
  • Dec 18, 2023
  • Scientific Reports
  • Qinqin Xu + 1 more

The Yellow River Basin is an important ecological barrier and economic core area in China, with problems such as fragile ecological environment and ecosystem degradation, and promoting industrial ecological transformation in resource cities is an important way to protect and improve the ecological and logical environment of the Yellow River Basin. Using panel data of 35 resource-based cities in the Yellow River Basin from 2012 to 2021, the impact of digital technology on industrial colonisation is empirically explored. The study finds (1) digital technology has a driving effect on the industrial ecological transformation of resource-based cities in the Yellow River Basin, and can be a new production tool to stimulate economic vitality; there is obvious regional heterogeneity in the impact of digital technology on industrial ecology, which significantly promotes the industrial ecological transformation of mid-stream and declining resource-based cities, and the facilitating effect is more obvious for declining resource-based cities. (2) From the moderating effect, fiscal decentralisation positively moderates the non-linear relationship between digital technology and industrial ecology. (3) From the perspective of threshold effect, the impact of digital technology on industrial ecologisation has a double threshold effect based on fiscal decentralisation, i.e. at the early stage of digital technology development, a reasonable degree of fiscal decentralisation can significantly promote the industrial ecological transformation of resource cities, but after the development of digital technology to a certain extent, the impact of fiscal decentralisation on industrial ecologisation will be gradually weakened, and will even bring negative effects to industrial transformation. Therefore, improving the development system of digital technology, giving the government moderate financial autonomy, and at the same time adhering to the local conditions and exploring the ecological development road in line with the characteristics of resource cities in the Yellow River Basin have positive significance for the industrial ecological transformation of resource cities in the Yellow River Basin.
