Abstract

Research on frozen cleavage stage embryos and blastocysts suggests that embryo quality and implantation rates are diminished after the freezing and thawing process. Another alternative to freezing at the cleavage and blastocyst stage is freezing at the zygote or 2PN stage. Although freezing at the zygote stage does not allow for developmental observation of the embryo, it does have numerous other advantages. It is the aim of this study to determine if embryo morphology, when compared to sibling embryos of the same fresh cycle, and implantation rates, when compared to fresh cycles of patients with matching parameters, are compromised during freezing and thawing of zygotes.
