Abstract

Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) is a major complication associated with assisted reproductive technologies (ART). The severe form is associated with both considerable morbidity and mortality (1). Despite the identification of various risk factors for the development of OHSS, the only way to prevent its occurrence is to withhold hCG administration and cancel the cycle (2). This approach is safe, but it is costly and undesired by patients seeking treatment for infertility. Conception after an IVF cycle is associated with increased risks for the occurrence and prolonged duration of OHSS as a result of secretion of hCG by the trophoblast (3).
