Abstract

Effects of compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) on the electric power network are analyzed. Measurements of electrical characteristics of eight CFLs are made during their switching and normal scheme operations. On the basis of measurement results a simulation model of a part of the electric power network was developed using the PSCAD simulation program. The model enables simulation of a detailed operation of CFLs with regard to other different loads. A comparison is made of the effects of replacement of the classic incandescent light bulbs with CFLs on the active and reactive power and harmonic voltages and currents (with regard to the EN 50160 specifications).
