Abstract

Summary This paper investigates the impact of β(momentum flux correction coefficient) and k and k’ (piezometric and ambient piezometric pressure correction coefficients) on the election of four inertial model: noninertial, local inertial, convective inertial, and full inertial. k and k’ do not affect model selection, but β does. For β values from 1 to 2, the noninertial model always gives a better approximation to the full inertial model than either the local or convective inertial model. When β value is equal to 1.25 or 1.33, which depend on what kind of resistance formula is applied to represent the friction slope, the noninertial model is exactly the same as the full inertial model.
