Abstract

Global energy crisis and climate change have forced to find alternative energy sources to serve in the transition from fossil fuel based economy to a sustainable bio-based economy. In this context, biofuels are a key opportunity for governments, researchers, and industry. They can work together to achieve the goal of the global energy crisis and climate change through large-scale production and use of advanced biofuels. The basic concept of defining biomass as a renewable energy resource includes the capturing of solar energy and carbon from ambient CO2 in increasing biomass. Production of biofuels from biomass has the potential to boost sustainable development and mitigate climate change issues with socio-economic benefits.
