Abstract

Abstract This chapter reviews the occurrence and distribution of medically important ticks (such as Ixodes ricinus, Dermacentor reticulatus and Haemaphysalis punctata) in Europe, and discusses how these have been affected by climate change. It presents evidence of the impact of climate change on tick behaviour and biology, and on the incidence of tickborne diseases in Europe such as Lyme disease and tickborne encephalitis. Challenges and potential strategies for the management of tick populations are also discussed.
