Abstract

The objective of optical fiber communication system is to accommodate the consumer demand for ever increasing amount of bandwidth with excellent reliability. Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) is a technology that assigns individual wavelengths or colors to the users and mixes them in a single fiber. The combination of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) and Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) offers an added dimension to Passive Optical Networks (PON). This hybrid architecture develops a system with multiple measuring points in order to share the expensive terminal equipment in the same network. These hybrid architectures would be of great importance in the applications like connecting large buildings or university with shared fiber. While amplifying the signal, the spontaneous emission process also gets amplified. So the ASE noise appears at the output of amplifier. In fiber-optic communication ASE noise from in line amplifiers is considered as a dominant noise source. To filter out ASE noise Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA) based Mach-Zehnder Interferometer (MZI) is used at receiver end. The performance analysis in the presence of Four Wave Mixing is done for different wavelengths. The simulation results show the impact of the ASE noise in the hybrid system in terms of noise spectra and Eye diagram.
