Abstract

Background: High dropout rates are seen amongst clients in drug rehabilitation centres. Knowledge of the locus of control (LOC) orientation of the service user can be utilized to predict the readiness of the user to access treatment and can assist in predicting treatment outcomes. Purpose: Determining the LOC change of the service user during rehabilitation treatment. Methodology: A pseudo-experimental study, in which the service user’s LOC was measured before and after treatment. Results: There was a statistical significant change (p=< .0000) in LOC orientation towards internal LOC after treatment. Conclusion: The service user’s LOC orientation could be used as a guide for the implementation of an appropriate tailor made treatment
