Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of a novel practice model consisting of a nurse-initiated, pharmacist-led consultation service for medical inpatients with acute pain at a not-for-profit hospital. This prospective, single-center, nonrandomized, interventional study will include adult patients (18 years of age or older) located in the inpatient medical units of Billings Clinic hospital, who have taken at least one analgesic medication since admission, are experiencing acute pain, have at least two consecutive pain scores of greater than or equal to 5 (on a scale from 0 to 10), and have an anticipated length of stay greater than 24 hours.
