Abstract
This paper describes Ammunition Factory Footscray (AFF) progress in the field of computer-aided coordinate measurement and in particular discusses the Factory's experience with a recently acquired cnc universal measuring machine, the Zeiss UMM 500. Expenditure justification, selection of the Zeiss UMM 500, description, and the capabilities of the machine along with a series of case studies illustrating typical applications of this measuring machine are discussed. The future of cmm's and their likely influence on the manufacturing sector concludes this paper.
