Abstract

Purpose: The United States is experiencing drug overdoses at epidemic proportions. In 2009, drug overdose deaths outnumbered deaths due to motor vehicle crashes for the first time. The majority of these deaths are unintentional and opioid-related. The CDC reports that efforts are needed to expand access to and use of naloxone in high risk populations.
