Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate energy-harvesting properties of FeCo/AlSi composites under impact loading. First, FeCo/AlSi composite is fabricated using a casting process. Second, their inverse magnetostrictive characteristic is measured under compressive loading. Third, cyclic loading tests are conducted for an energy-harvesting device that consists of a FeCo/AlSi composite specimen, two magnets, and a coil. Finally, impact loading testing is applied for energy-harvesting devices using an in-house impact-loading machine: a modified Izod impact testing machine. The zigzag interface and chemical bonding leads to transfer of stress and strain between the Fe-Co fiber and the Al-Si matrix. The present energy-harvesting device based on FeCo/AlSi composite demonstrates excellent durability for impact loading, and exhibits good impact energy-harvesting properties.
