Abstract

A non-destructive method for quality control of the backfill material in segmental lined tunnels is presented in this study. The proposed method is based on the Impact Echo (IE) amplification factor (Q-factor). Initial results indicate that the measured IE Q-factor can be directly related to the quality of the backfill material. This opens up the possibility for more efficient future quality control of the backfill in segmental lined tunnels.KeywordsImpact echoLamb wavesSegmental liningSurface waves
