Abstract

One of the main specificities of ultracapacitors is based on porous electrodes, with high specific area. The electrostatic nature of the chargers storage leads to high performances in terms of cyclability and reversibility. But in practice, ultracapacitors exhibit a performances fading when they are used during months. The purpose of this paper is to study the influence of the performances fading of ultracapacitors on the operation of a hybrid electric vehicle system composed of ultracapacitors and battery. So, results of ultracapacitors ageing are presented in order to highlight the performances fading. Then, an analytical impedance model is presented and used for the system simulation on Matlab software. The influence of the evolution of ultracapacitors parameters with ageing is studied and their impact on the complete system operation is discussed.
