Abstract

Introduction: According to public health data from 2020, nearly 10,000 people aged 65 and over die each year as a result of a fall. A national plan to prevent falls has therefore been put in place with aim of reducing mortality due to falls by 20% by 2024.Objective: The objective of this retrospective pilot study was to assess the relevance and effectiveness of a ‘balance workshop’ in medical care and rehabilitation service in line with the national plan.Results: The study showed a significant improvement in knowledge of the risk of falls as well as static and dynamic balance of the elderly participants in the workshop.Conclusion: This study confirms the results of previous studies, underlines the interest of using ‘balance workshops’ as a vector for improving knowledge of the risk of falls and demonstrates the usefulness of ‘balance workshops’ in medical care and rehabilitation services.Level of evidence: 5
