Abstract

A variation in reaction rates that is caused by replacing a reactant with a member of a closely related series, or by replacing a solvent with a closely related one, does not lead to any variation in the transition state structure. A variation in reaction rates that is caused by replacement of reactants, or solvents, with others not closely related leads to a variation in the transition state structure.
