Abstract

Hepatitis B is a major global health problem. In Romania perinatal transmission of viral hepatitis B is one of the main way of transmission. Universal screening of all pregnant women, at-birth prophylaxis with specific anti-HBV immune globulin, as well as HBV vaccination for newborns of infected mothers are effective in reducing the risk of vertical transmission. In Romania it was necessary to change the vaccination schedule of newborns of infected mothers due to lack of hepatitis B vaccine.
