Abstract
Summary Lambs from ewes which had been infected with ewe abortion virus at the previous pregnancy, and from vaccinated ewes, were found to have positive titres to the complement-fixation test when less than three weeks old. This positive titre resulted from the absorption of complementfixing antibodies from the colostrum. Lambs from uninfected mothers had negative titres. There is a possibility that some lambs born with infected membranes may have some immunity prior to the ingestion of colostrum. Experimental infection of ewe lambs from immune mothers failed to demonstrate that they were protected against abortion at their first pregnancy.
