Abstract

This paper reports on the application of an immunological technique, cross-over immunoelectrophoresis (CIEP), to the analysis of non-lithic artefactual materials. CIEP has been used to identify animal protein in human coprolites and certain site soils. These results demonstrate the importance of using immunological methods in combination with conventional analytical techniques to gain a deeper understanding of prehistoric subsistence patterns.
