Abstract

Summary The use of the antigenic properties of chalones as tissue markers is described. Immune serum specific, for one protein in a highly purified ethanol rat skin extract containing G1 and G2 inhibitors was obtained in rabbits. In a double immunodiffusion test the antiserum reacted with extracts of tail skin, sole skin, tongue, oesophagus, forestomach and vagina, forming identical precipitin lines. No reaction of antiserum with extracts of rat cornea, bladder, liver, kidney, intestine or blood serum was observed. The data are discussed from the histogenetic point of view.
