Abstract

Radioallergosorbent test for measurement of anti-Mycoplasma pneumoniae (Mp) IgG, IgE and IgG antibody in the sera of primary atypical pneumonia (PAP) patients and controls was performed. The antigen, MW 21, 000 protein most reactive for RAST, was purified from Mp (MAC strain). In conclusion : 1) Specific IgG antibody titers were correlated with specific IgD antibody titers. 2) Specific IgE antibody titers were correlated with cold agglutinin titers. 3) Specific IgE antibody titers were inversely proportional to CF titers. 4) Specific IgG antibody titers exceeded the mean +1 SD during epidemics of Mycoplasma pneumonia.Specific IgE antibodies might be produced in association with the process of cold agglutinin production, one of the autoantibodies. Even if PAP does not develop, specific IgG antibody responses will be provoked by Mp infection without any clinical manifestations.
