Abstract

Aim We aim to assess prognostic significance of immunohistochemistry represented in Napsin A and CK 5/6 in NSCLC, Moreover we aim to correlate histologic patterns of adenocarcinoma with Napsin A expression and identify its prognostic significance. Patients and methods The study was conducted on 130 cases diagnosed pathologically as NSCLC, and then we used Napsin A and CK 5/6 for subtyping them into actual histologic types (108 cases were diagnosed as adenocarcinoma and 22 cases as squamous cell carcinoma, we correlated expression levels of Napsin A and CK 5/6 to different clinicopathological variants. Results Napsin A score 2 was high in age more than or equal 60 years while Napsin A score 3 was high in age less than 50 years also Napsin A score 3 was high in cases with lymph node metastasis, while CK 5/6 was associated with cases without distant metastasis. Conclusion Both Napsin A and CK 5/6 could be used as prognostic and diagnostic markers in NSCLC.
