Abstract
To understand the pathogenesis of oral vascular lesions, we investigated hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) immunoexpression in hemangioma and pyogenic granuloma (PG). Study Design: The sample consisted of 30 cases of hemangiomas and 30 of PG. The first diagnoses were reclassified based on expression of human glucose transporter (GLUT-1). Subsequently, lesions were immunohistochemically evaluated for the expression of HIF-1α. Positive and negative cells were counted, and the mean number of positive cells was calculated for each case.
