Abstract

Relaxin, a polypeptide hormone produced in the pregnant corpus luteum, has been localized in the decidua using the avidin-biotin peroxidase complex (ABC) technique. Immunogold techniques have been reported as more sensitive than the ABC, but they had never been used to localize relaxin at the light microscopic level. Our study indicates that although immunogold is less sensitive than the ABC method, it has the advantages of greater specificity, ease of application, and the elimination of hazardous chemicals.
