Abstract

Chicken pituitary growth hormone (GH) was determined by a heterologous radioimmunoassay for rat GH following separation of the hormone by polyacrylamide disc gel electrophoresis. The GH was concentrated in the slowest migrating protein band, called either TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) or SP (slow-moving protein), which has been proven to have somatotropic activity in the toad. The distribution pattern of radioimmunoassayable GH was the same in the normal and dwarf chickens of both sexes.
